RETROSPECTIVE OF A PASSION
“If you really want to make it
your own, re-conquer what
you have inherited from your
forefathers.”
(J. W. von Goethe)
THE DREAM
1902
The legend of Ferrari began with a man, Giulio Ferrari, and his dream of creating a wine in Trentino capable of competing with the best French Champagnes.
He was a pioneer; it was he who was the first to realize the extraordinary vocation of his area, and it was he who first made substantial plantings of Chardonnay in Italy.
He started to produce a few highly select bottles, with an obsessive attention to quality.
EVOLUTION
1952
As he had no children, Giulio Ferrari began looking for a successor to whom he could entrust his dream.
Among many candidates he chose Bruno Lunelli, owner of a wine shop in Trento. Thanks to his passion and entrepreneurial talent, Bruno Lunelli succeeded in increasing production without ever compromising on quality.
A FAMILY TRADITION
'70 - '00
Bruno Lunelli conveyed his passion to his sons; under the leadership of Franco, Gino and Mauro, Ferrari became the market leader in Italy and the nation’s celebratory wine par excellence.
In this period, some of the Company’s wines were created, wines that were destined to go down in history: we are talking abount Ferrari Rosé, Ferrari Perlé and Giulio Ferrari Riserva del Fondatore.
AMBASSADORS OF THE ITALIAN ART OF LIVING
TODAY
The third generation of the Lunelli family is keeping the Ferrari dream alive.
Marcello, Matteo, Camilla and Alessandro lead the company with the aim of combining innovation and tradition, taking Ferrari around the world as ambassadors of the Italian Art of Living.
THE ITALIAN ART OF LIVING
“The art of Italians is in beauty.”
(Kahlil Gibran)
Cultivating excellence
Operating in an excellent manner depends on authentic values, lovingly cultivated and passed down from one generation to the next.
It is a constant quest for quality and attention to detail during the entire production process that have made Ferrari Italy’s leading producer of Metodo Classico sparkling wines. For this reason, every bottle provides a unique experience.
Link with the territory
A profound link with the territory and respect for the land in every single operation: all of Ferrari’s wines are Trentodoc and are produced exclusively from grapes grown in Trentino at high altitudes using sustainable farming methods.
Innovating, yet respecting tradition
As custodians of Ferrari’s century-long history, the members of the Lunelli family recognize that their future involves constant research and experimentation.
So it is that their experience is refreshed each day, whilst following in the footsteps of tradition.
Italian style
With its natural elegance, Ferrari – among the most glittering manifestations of that art of living which is so very Italian – is an icon of style that wins you over from the very first sip.
It has within it an innate taste for beauty and savoir vivre, and the typically Italian attitude of relishing every moment to the full.
Territory
FERRARI’S QUALITY IS THE RESULT OF LOTS OF SMALL, DAILY PROCEDURES.
“Wine is poetry
of the earth.”
(Mario Soldati)
It is created in mountainside vineyards, in the finest areas of Trentino, and perfected in the winery using the mandatory techniques for making Trentodoc wines.
Trentino
"The most beautiful garden of vines in Europe."
(J. W. von Goethe)
With its mountain viticulture, Trentino is an area that is extraordinarily suited to the production of sparkling wines of great elegance and complexity: the alternation of warm days and cool nights gives added quality to the grapes, giving them a rainbow of different flavours and fragrances.
It is thanks to the intuition of Giulio Ferrari that this area represents today the largest vineyard zone planted with Chardonnay in Italy; a lovely garden of vines, guarded like a treasure by the mountains that surround it.

Trentodoc
The first D.O.C. in Italy
devoted exclusively to Metodo Classico.
“Trentodoc” expresses the quintessence of sparkling wines from the mountains, produced exclusively by the Metodo Classico from grapes grown in Trentino. It is the first D.O.C. created in Italy for Metodo Classico and the second in the world, after Champagne. There are 40 producers and more than 100 different wines bearing the brand TRENTODOC, devised in 2007 and promoted by Itituto Trentodoc.
Towards the end of the summer, when the bunches of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are ripe, the grapes are picked by hand and taken to the winery, where they are pressed. This is followed by the first fermentation, from which derive aromas reminiscent of those of the variety of origin.

After the creation of the cuvée (the desired blend), the base wine is bottled and enriched with sugars and selected yeasts. So the second fermentation begins: the one that creates the perlage (bubbles).
The cuvée remains in the bottle virtually undisturbed for between two and ten years, depending on the individual wine. In the silence of the cellar the daily ritual of remuage carried out: that eighth of a turn of each bottle that is indispensable for making the sediment slide towards the cork; this sediment will then be removed by means of dégorgement. The process end with the addition of the liqueur d’expédition, the secret formula of which defines the house style of each individual winery.
The production chain
Excellence,
from the land to the table.
The soul of Ferrari’s wines stems from the generosity of nature and the tenacity of man; it originates from grapes hand-picked in the Lunelli family’s vineyards and from the labours of the 500 families of vine growers in Trentino who supply their grapes.

In these mountain vineyards, maintained and tended like gardens, every row of vines is an expression of man’s deep respect for nature and his contact with the earth. Ferrari’s agronomists supervise the grape suppliers throughout the year, while the Company’s oenologists control every phase of the delicate vinification process.
Excellence is thus expressed in every stage of the supply chain, from the vineyard to the table.
Sustainability
Harmony between
men and nature.
We do more than guaranteeing that all Ferrari vineyards have an organic certification: we put the natural fertility of the soil at the centre of our work by reintroducing ancient agronomic practices, such as the use of green manure. The broad notion of environmental protection advocated by Ferrari Winery has granted the company the prestigious “Biodiversity Friend” certificate, issued by the Worldwide Biodiversity Association.
Ferrari Winery has even created a protocol, followed by all its grape providers. “The Ferrari Vineyard: for a sustainable and healthy mountain winemaking industry” is hinged on the concepts of grape quality, farmers’ health, and environmental protection. The protocol was developed in partnership with the Edmund Mach Foundation and it is certified by CSQA, one of the strictest food quality certification schemes in Italy. Its strict standards and sustainable methods that entail the total ban of chemical herbicides, mite killers, and pesticides enhance the natural fertility of the soil.
"Enjoy Italy's best sparkling wines which are also among the finest in the world."
Gambero Rosso
1906: Ferrari’s sparkling wine wins the Gold Medal at the International Exhibition in Milan. This is just the first of many prestigious accolades that will confirm the high quality of the Company’s outstanding products.
Every year the most important wine guides consecrate the Lunelli family’s Trentodoc as belonging to the top rank of Italy’s production. Wine Spectator, the international wine bible, defines Ferrari as “the finest, oldest and most celebrated producer of Metodo Classico sparklers (…) which creates vintage wines that compare happily with the most prestigious and expensive bottles from Champagne”.
Formula 1® has chosen Ferrari Trento as its official partner not only because it is one of the world’s most award-winning wineries, but also due to its long and prestigious history. In the words of Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1®: “Celebrating success is part and parcel of both our DNAs and Ferrari Trento, which has always been present at the most important moments in sport, is the ideal partner for us. For more than a century Ferrari Trento has been synonymous with Italian excellence: it has created, thanks to its passion and skill, sparkling wines of great elegance that have the ability to enhance any occasion”.
